Interviewees:
After several years in HR, Winne Piepers was ready for a new challenge. “In my role as HR Project and Analytics Lead, I was particularly drawn to the numerical and analytical side.” When she saw an internal vacancy for a Data and Business Intelligence Analyst, it immediately felt like a good match. The skills Winne developed in HR, such as analysing data and translating it into clear visuals, she now uses in Sales and Marketing. “These areas focus more on economic aspects,” she explains. “So I have a lot to learn but that’s exactly what makes it so interesting.
Matthew O’Callaghan was also looking for something new. After launching his career in Customer Service, he was looking to further develop his skills. Moving into Sales felt like a logical next step. “I already knew how to provide customers with the best possible service and build a personal relationship with them. In the past, this was mainly done via email or phone, now I meet them face to face. That makes it easier to build trust.” Another advantage is that Matthew already knows the products inside out, allowing him to quickly find a solution that satisfies everyone.
For Arthur Lahaye, the reason was different. When Unilin’s activities in Frankfurt changed, he explored new opportunities in-house with his manager. His ambition to work internationally and have frequent customer contact eventually led him to London as Area Sales Manager UK. “In Germany, I developed a strong foundation for this role, working independently, paying attention to detail, and always putting the customer first.”
Supported by Unilin
Unilin supported all three in their internal job move. Winne: “My current manager immediately believed in my transition, even though I had no experience in Sales or Marketing. My new colleagues also welcomed me with open arms. They readily share their knowledge and show great patience.
Arthur moved to London and Unilin assisted him with all practical matters. “The HR team was always available to answer my questions. Thanks to their support, everything went smoothly.”
Matthew was given the opportunity to prepare thoroughly for his new role. He spent several weeks working alongside experienced Sales Managers, allowing him to learn the job step by step. “Even now, I can still contact them with questions or for a quick brainstorming session.”
Their golden tip for colleagues
● Matthew: Develop yourself in your current role and build strong relationships with your colleagues. Their support is invaluable.
● Arthur: Know what you want, express it clearly and seize opportunities when they arise.
● Winne: Take the leap. It’s only when you step out of your comfort zone that you can truly grow.

Diversity makes for richer collaboration. Unilin’s Finance Team in Ireland brings together 10 women and 9 men, representing 5 countries as well as different generations and backgrounds.
